Stephen Fry has been appointed as patron of the charitable arm of Marylebone Cricket Club, the MCC Foundation, joining supporters including Claire Taylor, Mike Brearley, Mike Atherton, and Mike Gatting.

Fry hopes to use his experience as president of mental health charity Mind to raise awareness of cricket’s 'empowering qualities' with regards to mental well-being, and he commented 'I am so proud to be a patron of the MCC Foundation. Cricket was one of the very first sports to recognise the need to address openly the issue of mental health, and the Foundation is a flagbearer for this important cause in communities up and down the country'.
